Top 50 law firm Keoghs, a leading provider for insurance litigation services for a range of industry sectors, chose BigHand’s Digital Dictation platform to help transform the firm’s current process for document production.

Keoghs found that BigHand Digital Dictation was the best way to upgrade its existing in-house dictation solution. The main objectives for the upgrade were to drive greater productivity and efficiency throughout the firm, and BigHand’s technology offers

• Full compatibility with the firm’s Windows 7 operating system.

Within Keoghs company offices in Bolton, Coventry and Manchester, around 250 fee earners and all 30 secretaries now use BigHand, including its core solution and mobile functionality.

Keoghs specialises in Counter-Fraud Services, Claims Management Services and Technical Claims Services within the manufacturing, construction, logistics, utilities, healthcare and local authority industries. The Counter-Fraud Service has been a great separator for the firm from their competitors; in support of clients who turned to the firm for this service, the organisation-wide decision to upgrade its operating system was the key driver to Keoghs’ decision to implement BigHand.

"As part of a firm-wide initiative to update our operating system, we needed to upgrade several of our applications – including our Digital Dictation system – as the current model was not compatible," says Darrell Burnell, Programme Manager for Keoghs. "We were running a very old version of our existing dictation system and knew that in order to upgrade it, we would realistically need to start fresh. It was logical to consider the benefits of replacing it with an alternative product at the same time.

"We looked at all the key players, including our current provider at the time, and drew up a comparison based on factors like cost, technical features and how future-proof each system would be. Although both BigHand and our previous supplier were very engaged, BigHand won hands down."

The project implementation was completed in December 2013. Since then, Keoghs has seen a significant increase in the number of monthly requests by fee earners to use the system after a very successful roll-out. The system has also led to significant productivity gains, as users can dictate using their mobile devices whilst they’re away from the office.
