Anything that makes our lawyers lives easier, makes my life easier.
I usually start my day by checking my emails and deal with anything urgent that may have come through overnight (which I know is not healthy, but it’s a hard habit to break), and if I’m on school drop-offs, I’m making lunches, ensuring bags are packed and getting my daughters ready (which can often be like herding cats!)
I catch the train into the city, and use that time to prepare for the day ahead, although I’ve recently started listening to podcasts on my way in, I’m hooked!
If I’m not going straight into a meeting, I like to catch-up with my team when I arrive. Our team has grown significantly in the last 12 months, so there’s a lot of them to see, but I think it’s really important to maintain that connection with everyone.
After that, it’s really dependent on my calendar and what we’re working on. We have a significant portfolio of work on at the moment, which is both daunting and exciting equally, so there’s never a dull day.
All of the terrific humans I get to work with, both within my team, our firm, and those outside of our firm that support us in getting things done.
Any time spent with my family and friends. Between work, our children and school and sporting commitments, life gets so busy, so it’s great to carve some time out and catch-up. Having said that, when things do get busy and I need to clear my head, nothing beats putting on my headphones and going for a run. I used to run a lot, but between work and life, something had to give. I’ve recently started again and am reminded just how good it is, not only for physical health, but mental wellbeing (and I get to listen to my favourite daggy tunes without judgement).
There is so much of the world (and Australia) to see, that I don’t have an ultimate (as it changes regularly, with each new travel doco or article I read). South America was our “visit before we have kids” plan, but 2 daughters and 10 years later, it’s still on the list. Our plan is to wait a few years now and go as a family instead.
