iPhone Dictation
The BigHand Digital Dictation system supports the Apple iPhone’s native AIFF and CAF sound formats. This allows professional users who record audio files on their iPhone to email their dictations into their BigHand Digital Dictation workflow system, for office-based tracking and processing, in turn expediting document turnaround.

How does it work?
The iPhone utilises Direct Push to synchronise with Microsoft Exchange, so we have expanded the conversion utility of our EmailGateway component so it extends to the AIFF and CAF file formats native to the iPhone. We already had extended the utility to take into account Symbian’s native WAV and AMR formats; so iPhone support was the natural next step in our efforts to remain at the forefront of the mobility push taking place in the global professional service sectors. Just downloading a third-party recorder, widely available for the iPhone, will enable you to record and then we can configure the device to send automatically into the BigHand system and your secretary's WIP inbox.

I thought it was a consumer device?
The device is just starting to gain in popularity in the business world. We have found IT/Systems Managers are now starting to get iPhone requests from individual users from within their business for the first time, asking the organisation to support their iPhone for commercial use. Those users also do not want to carry (and the firm doesn't want to pay for) multiple dictation devices....which is where converging to their iPhone for dictation is beneficial.
