Successful launch in Scotland as Morisons roll out
BigHand's TotalSpeech digital dictation system has marked its launch in Scotland with a major roll out at leading Edinburgh and Glasgow based law firm, Morisons. TotalSpeech has quickly proved a success with users, as well as providing efficiency improvements and cost savings for the firm. TotalSpeech has now been installed for 67 users across three sites, Morison's Edinburgh, Glasgow and Livingston offices, with the remainder due to receive the system shortly.
Morisons' initial objectives were to reduce the number of temporary secretaries, to smooth the flow of work between departments, and provide more visibility in the document production process. As a result, the firm aimed to improve document turnaround times for clients and reduce any potential backlog of work in their increasingly busy offices. According to the firm there is no doubt these efficiency objectives have been met, and Morisons now aim to become even more sophisticated in the way they utilise the technology.
Andrew Getley, Systems Manager at Morisons, commented:
"We knew that digital dictation was the logical direction to choose in order to leverage the benefits of our new computer infrastructure and improve the workflow between offices; hence the only choice was between suppliers. The primary differentiator in favour of TotalSpeech was the direct supply chain, which means that, as developers, they provide us with the expertise, code access and technical input we could not have received elsewhere. We have also made feature suggestions that we know are now going to be incorporated into future releases. When you add to this the robust nature of the core TotalSpeech architecture, it is a great solution. We are delighted."
TotalSpeech is renowned for its crash resistant three-tier architecture and network efficiency, which enable it to utilise a small amount of a firms network bandwidth and operate without streaming delays. As a result of its popularity among both technical staff and lawyers TotalSpeech recently won the Society for Computers & Law 2003 Award for "the most outstanding application of information technology to the law in the UK and Ireland". In addition to passing Morisons stringent technical standards, TotalSpeech has also been well adopted by both fee-earners and secretaries alike. Users have appreciated the intuitive interface and clarity of design, as well as the fact that TotalSpeech is compatible with an array of handheld devices that enable them to work while on the move or while at home.
